The group seminars this week it made me realize how much research can be done base do the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. We first heard from Susie and Christine on disability research at UCD. The amount of information they gathered was impeccable and it was overwhelming to find how much hard evidence they have and how little is being done to change their low statistics of individuals with disabilities that aren’t employed. When Susie showed the video of th and young man who was in search of a job for years I found myself stereotyping disabilities because I was surprised when I found that he wanted a job not for himself but to support his family. I was aggravated in myself for making an assumption that he did not have a family to support. It then made me Realize that employers may have this assumption as well. Christine educated us on the organization for employment support for individuals with disabilities but I wonder is there is more to the organization that will help a whole family in the workplace rather than just one individual.
I was very about this week our meeting at trinity. I was a,Alex by how well employers work with their program. They receive a large amount of funding from the, and I think it is outstanding that they don’t want to just contribute to their program but they genuinely want to be involved in their education because experience in a work environment is a key factor to social education and putting what you learn into action ( which can easily be overlooked). I feel as though program, even though it is new has the foundation to become replicated program that can be incorporated into other universities.
