I thought that Dr. Quinn’s talk about inclusive education was important to hear. She discussed how inclusive education was the route that every country should be aiming towards. Ability’s Intersections as a Social Identity
Listening to Matilda Gonzalez talk about how her trans identity intersects with disability. Her presentation was a fantastic contribution to this conference, and a stance that many other presenters have not taken. I found that how she unpacked the entire construct of gender and sex so that the audience understood why trans people do not have a disability, but went further to examine what disability really meant. Accessible History
As we have traveled throughout Dublin this past week one of the most striking things is the amount of history embedded in this city. I really appreciate the amount of wonderful sights there are to see, and they tell a rich story about how Ireland has come to be the country we see today. Continue reading
The US is a Disability Rights Leader?
Today we went to a talk with Dr. Christine Linehan at UCD. She talked a lot about were Ireland is at with their disability policies and practices. What I found especially interesting about her information is that she mentioned various times about how wonderful the United States practice is for our services and that we are at the forefront of social justice for individuals with disabilities. I found this surprising because when I think of the services in the United States for people with disabilities, I rarely say how wonderful they are. Continue reading
