This laboratory is primarily used to examine the effects of loads on biological tissues such as, cartilage, bones, and muscles. These are the pieces of equipment that are most commonly used:
-
1. MTS ServoHydraulic Axial/Torsion System (Model 370)
- Used to determine the material properties of meniscus and mucles.
- Various adaptions for unique test set-ups.
- Can accommodate multiple sized load cells.
- Capable of both axial as well as torsional loading.
-
2. MTS ServoHydraulic Axial Testing System (Model 858 MiniBionix)
- Various adaptions for unique test set-ups.
- Can accommodate multiple sized load cells.
- Can be used with video capture software and DIC for local strain measurements.
-
3. Bioreactor
- Fits inside standard CO2 incubator to mimic biological conditions.
- Custom built load or displacement control axial test fixture.
- Can be used to do short or long term in vitro loading on biological explants in a controlled environment.
