Community

Community Engagement is a key component of the Du Bois Department. We offer service learning opportunities, community-based internships, Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), Summer Research Opportunity Programs (SROP), and other opportunities to work with a variety of community partners. Some examples of work by our students and faculty members is provided here.

Conversations at PAHMUSA

Since 1995 the founders of the Pan African Historical Museum USA (PAHMUSA) have been bringing African and African-American culture and history alive for area students as well as the general public in their museum spaces at Tower Square. Ms. LuJuana D. Hood, the Executive Director of PAHMUSA invited Amilcar Shabazz, Du Bois Professor of Afro-American Studies at UMass Amherst to host a discussion series call Conversations at PAHMUSA.
