About Laura
Current Student at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine
I am pursuing a dual degree in Biology and Pre-Veterinary Sciences as part of the Commonwealth Honors College class of 2024. I am also minoring in Creative Writing, Microbiology, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After graduation, I’ll be attending Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine after being accepted my sophomore year as part of the Early Acceptance Bachelor’s/DVM program, and I hope to continue research in vet school. In the lab, I have been a part of Team Aggie studying bacterial speck of tomato, helped gather data for Team Gram Negative, and started my own team, Team SutURe-Self. I’ve also taught the Fall 2023 iteration of the CURE and was a teaching intern for a Summer Research Intensive for high schoolers in the Riley Lab in 2023. My favorite bacteria is Wolbachia – we don’t currently work with this bacteria, but I learned about it during the Summer Research Intensive from the high schoolers and discovered that it’s a bacterial parasite that is actually necessary for some species to be able to reproduce and can also lead to sex changes!
