About Tamara
Hi! I’m Tamara and I’m studying biochemistry and molecular biology, exploring my interest in microbiology with the Riley Lab. I’m originally from Beirut, Lebanon but spent my childhood in Dubai before moving to New York City in high school. I am currently a member of Team Enteric, and our goal is to explore the synergistic potential of colicins and nisin against E. coli, the main culprit responsible for Urinary Tract Infections. As an aspiring physician drawn to the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, I am passionate about highlighting the therapeutic potential of bacteriocins in a way that contributes to women’s health research. My favorite bacteria is the one I’m currently working with, E. coli., because it has significantly advanced scientific progress, serving as a model organism in 11 different Nobel prize-winning discoveries.
