IPConfig

If you want to check the network connections associated with a Windows based computer, IPConfig is the tool to use. All you have to do is:

1. Open a command prompt window
2. Hit enter
3. Type “ipconfig” in the first line

IPConfig displays useful information such as IP address, subnet mask and the default gateway for all of the different network connections in the computer.

There are also many variations of the IPConfig command which can be used in order to procure different kinds of information.

Adding ” /all” after the original command will show even more information like the mac address for each adapter and the DHCP status. The majority of the information here can be used to uniquely identify a computer on a network, diagnose problems on both the computer and the network that it is connected to or even change how the computer connects to a network.

There are even more commands with other useful information which can be used to diagnose problems with network connections as well as some basic commands that are used for fixing those problems. IPConfig is a very useful tool that anyone can use when it comes to network connectivity issues.
