BCT Lectures
The Building and Construction Technology (BCT) program at UMass offers free lectures every semester, covering topics related to forests, climate change, CO2 emissions, building in the 21st century, and projects such as the Boston Big Dig.
Cost: Free for UMass students
U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)
The USGBC is the leading organization in the U.S. for education about green buildings and sustainable construction. They are the creators of the LEED certification system in construction and design. More information below on the process of becoming LEED accredited.
Cost: Accounts are free. Make sure to use “University of Massachusetts Amherst” for your membership access!
The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America
AGC of America offers educational resources for students and professionals. Often, they will host webinars, which can be free or discounted for students. They may not say this, but reach out to them or us to inquire about getting a discounted rate.
Cost: accounts are free. Events vary.
Create an account: Head to www.agc.org, click register in the top left of the website. Fill in the appropriate information. Select “AGC Student Chapter – University of Massachusetts – Amherst – Amherst, MA” as the organization. If this doesn’t work, email us at agc@umass.edu.
Certifications
Certifications are an excellent way to accelerate your knowledge and career, whether it be in construction, project management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or architecture. Certifications are also great because they show employers that you are invested in your skills and devote time to becoming a more knowledgeable professional.
