OSHA-10 Kickstarter

Event Summary:

  • Members and community got the opportunity to enroll in OSHA-10 Training for a discounted price through our chapter
  • Short presentation on the process, the benefits, and connections were given
  • Free pizza was provided and quickly eaten!

Blueprint Workshop with Kyle Murphy

Feb 28, 2023

Event Summary:

  • Our recurring speaker and club founder Kyle Murphy returned to Amherst to give us a quick tutorial on reading plans
  • He gave us brief and informative background on the skill of reading and then broke us down into group to get our hands on some plans
  • Members enjoyed a scavenger hunt activity at the end which included finding certain sets of plans or measuring the length of a street

Mini-Conference with Ken Canty and Taylor Chanel

March 28, 2023

Event Summary:

  • We hosted Ken Canty and Taylor Chanel for a day of defining our industry and working towards a future that we want
  • They started of the conference with drop-in mentor hours in the morning and followed with technical talks on Safe-Work Practices (by Taylor) and Heavy Lift Techniques (by Ken)
  • We finished the day strong with a powerful discussion on how we can build a culture of inclusion in the construction industry!

South Deerfield Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour

April 5, 2023

Event Summary:

  • With our fabulous bus driver (and E-Board member) Oliver, we set off to tour our local wastewater treatment plan, it was great to see the progress after visiting 1.5 years later!
  • Tour was geared to both environmental engineers as well as project managers as we split into two groups based on interests

Bridge Decking Installation

May 6, 2023

Event Summary:

  • Nearing the end of the Bridge Project, members got the opportunity to participate in the most hands-on part: installing the FRP decking
  • Worked for almost 6 hours with a yummy lunch break at Berk
  • see in complete was very satisfying!

Club Hike on Mt.Tom

May 9, 2023

Event Summary:

  • Left Haigis Mall around 5 and carpooled over to Mt. Tom to begin our sunset hike
  • Good weather
  • Steep hike up but views were beautiful and clear
  • Came down before sunset as we did not anticipate it taking too long

Field Day on the Quad

May 18, 2023

Event Summary:

  • Last event of the semester held on Reading Day
  • Collaborated with Engineer Peers who provided ice cream cookie sundaes on this hot day!
  • Like last year, we rented the bouncy obstacle course and invited professors to race through the course
  • Among the most anticipated races, our E-Board’s own Tom Toscano lost against Professor Mariana Lopes by a landslide
