Applications for the 2017 REU class will be due February 19, 2017! 

The REU program will take place between June 5th 2017 and August 4th 2017

Electronic applications for the B-SMaRT REU for summer of 2017 are a Google form that can be found by clicking here: B-SMaRT REU Application

In addition to filling out the online application, applicants must send the following to the email bkearns@physics.umass.edu

(1) Provide a 1-page essay. For an example statement, please see the examples page.

Please describe:

• Your current school, year in school, and major or discipline of study;
• Your interest in science and your goals for your career; why are your studying science at your school?
• If you are interested in research or have previous research experience; are you doing research now? Please describe the research and some specific examples of your work in that research.

(2) Provide a curriculum vitae (CV) or resume. For an example resume and CV, see the examples page.

(3) Provide an unofficial transcript listing all college-level courses and grades. You can print this from your online grade system at your school. Print as a pdf or print and scan it, to send electronically.

(4) One letter of recommendation from a faculty member or a former employer. Have the recommender send the letter to the bkearns@physics.umass.edu email address directly.

We recommend asking a faculty member from your current institution, but an employer who knows your work ethic and perseverance and can speak highly of you will also be acceptable.
