The tripartite video-sequence has a problem: I can’t get the dance sequences to work together. Apparently, meshing motion is more tricky than I had imagined… requiring much more expertise than brand-image focalizing.
Work in progress
As I continue to work on my little video project, I remember I’m supposed to chronicle its creation here… so let’s go!
SO my idea is simple: people assign themselves identity based on their music, language, clothing and possessions. I think this calls back to a piece by Louis Althusser, who writes about interpellation: literally “inter” — between, and “appeler” – to call (note that Althusser is French, so these actually flow from French/Latin terminology).
So people call themselves based on things they report “calling” to them, or that is at least what I hope to explore. I’ve been placing a large number of images together and setting them to music in hopes that these pieces will force recognition from those who see it. Thus far, I have my section built for vehicles: many of us define ourselves in part by the wheels we spin in. I myself LOVE my car, which I spent the better part of the summer chasing salesmen about (it had to be JUST the right one). I’m including a sampling: a truck, a sportscar etc.
