About the Organization

Amherst Recreation provides a wide range of community-based sports and recreational programs that promote youth development, inclusion, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles. We are committed to creating accessible opportunities for all participants and continually work to expand and adapt our programs to meet the needs of the community.

This program serves youth ages 5–10 from Amherst and the surrounding areas.

General Description of What an Intern Might Do:

Interns will support basketball practices by assisting coaches, following direction, and providing 1-on-1 support to participants when needed. They may help create or use visual supports, relay instructions and information to players or groups, and observe interactions and engagement during activities. Interns will also help coaches identify when participants may need additional support and communicate those observations effectively.

Types of Professionals Interns Will Work With:

Students will work with a range of coaches, including parent volunteers, current college coaches, and professors, providing varied perspectives on coaching, communication, and youth development.
