Populations served:

The Northampton Public Schools Preschool (NPS) offers half-day (morning and afternoon sessions) and a full-day integrated preschool program that meets 4 days a week for 3- and 4-year-old children who live in Northampton, Florence, and Leeds. There are two locations, at Bridge St School and Leeds Elementary. NPS also elects to offer full Itinerant Special Education Services through its Early Childhood Center at all community-based preschools in Northampton, Florence & Leeds. These services are supported through a Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative grant from the Department of Early Education and Care. 

All programs include children who are typically developing as well as those with special needs. All settings allow children to participate to their fullest capacities in their classroom settings. Special support services are provided within the classroom or on a pull-out basis as indicated in the child’s IEP.

Itinerant Services are Provided at Various Locations throughout the city of Northampton.

Accessible by Public Transportation?

Yes, the two public preschools at Bridge & Leeds are accessible by public transportation. The itinerant special education service programs have locations that are not on the public transportation route.

General job description of what an intern might do:

Support students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom setting. Work under the direction of general education and special education professionals.

Your availability:

Programs follow the NPS Public School Calendar. The BSS & Leeds public preschools meet Monday through Thursday from 8:10 am – 2 pm. The Itinerant Special Education services are provided up till 4 pm, Monday-Thursday. Internships are available for fall and spring semesters.
