Violinist Mark Feldman has recorded with everybody from Johnny Cash and John Zorn, to the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. His wife, pianist and composer Sylvie Courvoisier, has recorded for ECM , Tzadik and Intakt records, and has worked with Ikue Mori, Tony Oxley, and Tim Berne among others. “Calling these duets simply chamber music, would be selling them short,” writes Andrew Bartlett. “The music gallops through genres, all of which is touched uniquely by Feldman and Courvoisier’s mix of sharp jazz chops, 20th-century chamber music, and traditional music of multiple stripes.”

Dan Kwong adds his contemporary, and political, view point in IT’s Great 2B American. Equal parts documentary travelogue, satirical dance review, irreverent history lesson, and poignant storytelling, IT’s Great 2B American is a funny, fierce, highly political piece inspired by Kwong’s recent travels in Asia. From the Japanese American internment camps of WWII to the secret American bombing of Cambodia to tourist shopping in Bali to the events of September 11th, IG2BA is a timely, hard-hitting work that boldly and humorously speaks to America’s place in the world — its checkered past, troubled present and hopeful future.

The Polish community makes up a large part of the Pioneer Valley and they’ll be excited to welcome the Warsaw Philharmonic to the area. For the 2012-2013 tour, the Warsaw Philharmonic and Maestro Antoni Wit will be joined by 25 year old Yulianna Avdeeva, the 2010 First Prize winner of the 16th International Frédéric Chopin Competition in Warsaw. The first . . . woman to win this competition in 45 years, she was also awarded the Krystian Zimerman Prize for the best performance of a sonata. The concert will feature works by Chopin and Brahms.

A sumptuous jazz feast serving up the remarkable partnership between two of jazz’s longest-standing musical pioneers Chick Coreaand Gary Burton performing material from their new album Hot House. They’ll offer their unique stew of “standards” — by composers from Kurt Weill and Antonio Carlos Jobim to Thelonious Monk and Lennon & McCartney. The multiple Grammy-winning duo also adds the Harlem String Quartet, expanding their legendary chamber-jazz repertoire on Chick’s composition “Mozart Goes Dancing” and classic Chick & Gary tunes. The Builders Association HOUSE / DIVIDED offer an incisive and insightful examination of the current mortgage crisis juxtaposed with passages from John Steinbeck’s classic Depression-era novel The Grapes of Wrath. Throughout HOUSE / DIVIDED, the Builders employ their trademark digital media and video wizardry, integrated into and supplementing the live action onstage. This assemblage of images and scenes illuminates foreclosure’s impact on American character and our collective sense of identity. The show will also point toward local efforts to rebuild and transform our own communities. Prior to that production there will be opportunities to talk about our own fears, experiences and what the future looks like.

Nate Chinen of the New York Times chose the Duo’s only North American performance as one of his ten best concerts in any genre of 2011. “Brötzmann has abundant nonstandard technique, but what impresses in his playing isn’t the execution so much as the force of presence,” writes Chinen. “He recently turned 70, and he sounds almost invincible.” The saxophonist is joined by the “deft, dynamic young vibraphonist”, Jason Adasiewicz.
