Moodle Tip of the Month: Use the Quiz Statistics Report to Evaluate a Quiz
Did you know that you can review statistics to help evaluate your quizzes and questions in Moodle? The Quiz statistics report in Moodle can help you look at overall performance on quizzes, and identify questions which may have confusing wording, unclear instructions, or otherwise need your attention. The Quiz statistics report includes statistics for each question, including a discrimination and facility index.
Spring 2023 Moodle Course Requests Open in SPIRE Monday, November 7th
On Monday, November 7th you’ll be able to make your Moodle course requests in SPIRE.
Don’t forget that each semester you will need to request Moodle for the courses you are teaching.

Request your Echo360 Courses
Echo360 allows you to create recordings of your lectures to deliver to students. Students can access recordings of a live class, or watch pre-recorded content.
Echo360 course requests for Fall 2022 are available in SPIRE. Just like Moodle, each semester you will need to request Echo360 for the courses you want to use it in. For step by step instructions, see Request Lecture Capture.
You can connect your Zoom and Echo360 accounts, and have all cloud recordings copied into Echo360. Use Echo360’s Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) uses speech to text algorithms to create an interactive transcript for your recordings. After you do a little editing for accuracy, your students will be able to study for exams.
Once your Echo360 courses are ready, it’s easy to give students access to Echo360 recordings through Moodle.
Legacy Moodle will shut down on Thursday, December 15, 2022
Legacy Moodle was in active use from 2011 through Spring 2021, when UMass Amherst made the transition to Moodle in the Cloud.
Coming 18 months after that transition, this shutdown is done to address security, stability, and resource concerns with maintaining an unused legacy platform.
Course content from Spring 2021 through Fall 2017 has already been migrated to Moodle in the Cloud.

Planned Downtimes
There are no planned downtimes outside of regular maintenance windows for October 2022.
Scheduled routine maintenance windows for UMass Amherst Moodle in the Cloud are Thursdays 11pm-12am (ET). Regular maintenance is a necessity for a stable, secure, and improving service. Many of these maintenance windows will not actually have the site unavailable for more than a few minutes, but it is still not advised to plan activities or set due dates during maintenance windows.
