Professor Aditi Lahiri CBE, FBA, MAE is the Emerita Professor of Linguistics and the Director of the Language and Brain Laboratory at the University of Oxford. She has doctorates from the University of Calcutta and Brown University and her first teaching positions were at the University of California, Los Angeles and Santa Cruz USA. After seven years as a Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, she held the Chair of Linguistics at the University of Konstanz, Germany for 15 years, and retired as Professor of Linguistics at the University of Oxford. Her research program makes use of a varied range of methodologies, from brain imaging technology to paleographic investigation of old manuscripts, with the overarching theme of investigating the mental representation and historical development of the phonology and morphology of human language. Her academic honors include a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire 2020) Max Planck Research Award, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize and the Professor Sukumar Sen Memorial Gold Medal. She is also a Fellow of the British Academy and an Honorary Life Member of the Linguistic Society of America.
