Career Mixer on Gathertown

Linguistics Career Launch Event

When: Tuesday, June 20th – 7pm-9pm ET (4pm-6pm PT)
Where: Virtually on Gathertown
Gathertown password have ALREADY been sent by email to all registered Institute participants (from email lingstitute2023@umass.edu).

Curious about non-academic career paths for linguists? All 2023 Linguistics Institute students and faculty are invited to join a Career Mixer on Gathertown by the Linguistics Career Launch team, an initiative of the Linguistics Beyond Academica special interest group of the LSA. Meet Career Linguists with a wide range of job titles and roles from diverse settings (tech, business, non-profits, government).

Introverts are definitely welcome. Gathertown supports small group discussion or individual 1:1 conversations. This Mixer is organized to let you network at your own pace, and listen as much as you speak (or more). Plus you can take a minute between conversations to regroup. No one will notice. Bring a friend, or debrief afterwards with someone you met in the Mixer.

This link will work for you to join and familiarize yourself with the space at any point prior to our event.

Gathertown is a proximity chat platform that helps replicate the in-person mixer experience. If you have never used Gather.town before, we STRONGLY recommend you read the Gather guide we have prepared: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bsdNQD6kqSuKERprOXTnL2BHJTTonmb_n1k-HXXPd8w/edit

The Mixer is live only, no recording. Note: The Mixer IS an opportunity to make connections and ask questions about career options, transitions, etc. The Mixer is NOT a job fair.
