Join us for a party to mark the end of the 2023 Linguistic Institute. We’ll have dinner and music! Maybe dancing! All Institute participants are welcome!

Where: Campus Center Auditorium
When: we start at 6.30pm

Social Activities

Social activities at the Institute include events such as the receptions following each invited lecture, Area Socials (social hour mixers for specific subfields), excursions, music and a picnic. See our Things to Do in the Amherst Area guide for more ideas about places to visit and events that are happening in Amherst this summer.

Welcome Mixer

Where: The lounge in the Integrative Learning Center (ILC)

Come pick up your welcome packets, ask any questions you have before the first day of classes, and meet some fellow attendees! Coffee and light refreshments will be provided and there will be a cash bar after 5pm.
Lecture Receptions

When: Following invited lectures on Mondays and Fridays, 6.30-8pm

Following each invited lecture, there will be a reception with drinks and appetizers for Institute participants.

Area Social Hours

When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays – 4.30-7pm
Where: The Lounge in the Integrative Learning Center

The Social Hours (which will be happening most Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons 4:30-7pm) will be an opportunity for students and faculty working in various research areas to meet in an informal setting, mingle, and get to know one another. Each social area meeting will have access to a cash bar and some complimentary hors d’oeuvres, which will be served in the ILC lounge (an open area on the ground floor of our building). Each time slot will host two ‘areas’ in parallel, and there are two zones in the Lounge so each group can occupy a different zone. If anyone wishes to mingle with both groups, they are welcome to move back and forth. If the weather is nice some groups might decide to mingle outdoors on the lawn, and that is fine too ???? (but please do NOT take alcoholic drinks outside!!)
