PhD candidate Emelia Kusi has been selected by the University as this year’s Chancellor’s Emerging Leader Award! This award is given to members of the UMass community whose work on our campus and beyond exemplifies the values embedded in justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion and who have served our institution for less than ten years.
From the award letter: “You were [chosen because of] your many contributions at the local, national, and international levels. You have furthered our mission of creating an inclusive community at the University of Massachusetts through your involvement in the African Graduate Student Association and UMass chapter of Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) as well the ways in which you lead efforts to further diversity in STEM through mentoring and promoting aspiring scientists. Beyond this, you are working nationally to ensure a diverse science future through your work with the Education and Outreach committee of the Entomological Society of America. Internationally, your work with your foundation, EKO Global, to elevate female scientists in Africa and inspire a new generation of women to enter into the sciences is commendable and inspiring”
Congratulations to Emelia for this amazing recognition of her work!
