About Me

Hi! I’m Maia, a math teacher at Greenfield High School. I teach students of all ages from Freshmen through Seniors. In the ’13-’14 year I taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Precalculus, all at the standard level. Next year, I’ll teach Algebra 1, Advanced Algebra 2, and Introduction to Computer Science.

I’m also a Teaching Fellow in the Noyce/NSF’s S2TLC program. This means that during the ’12-’13 school year I student taught at GHS with my Master Teaching Fellow Kirsten and she taught me her magical ways of teaching. Together with the other Teaching Fellows (TFs) and Master Teaching Fellows (MTFs), Kirsten and I participate in communities of practice, share teaching resources and discuss what it means to teach in a high needs school district.  Along with GHS people, teachers from Mahar, Springfield and Holyoke participate in the fellowship.

When I’m not busy maintaining this blog, I like to do yoga, knit, and read math comics online. I’m a 2012 graduate of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, and yes, I do miss the weather there, thanks for asking! As part of the S2TLC fellowship, I received my Masters in Education from UMass Amherst in 2013.
