Nanotechnology researchers discover new knowledge and create inventions that reveal, leverage and build upon the way things work at the nanoscale. When this work results in opportunities for new solutions to real-world problems, entrepreneurs may get involved in commercializing these discoveries and inventions. While many of the activities required of nanotechnology entrepreneurs (nanopreneurs) are common to all commercialization and venture development efforts, some are more particular to nanotechnology. Among these are:

  • Long and complex technology development processes
  • Potential applications in multiple industries
  • Regulatory considerations

Our focus on NanoPreneurship is intended to provide a starting point for those nanotechnology students and researchers who want to “Think NanoPreneurship” by exploring these and other special issues while complementing general (industry and discipline agnostic) entrepreneurship resources on campus and beyond. Our motivation  is to inspire, encourage and stimulate more commercialization based upon nanotechnology research by serving as a starting point for interested academic researchers.
