Finding Serenity on Saturday March 5th

As many of you know, this upcoming Saturday is predicted to be a bit rowdy. While SGA is putting on UMass Live in the afternoon as a safe alternative to the impending activities, some of you may be wanting to flee the scene all together and get some serenity. I suggest, then, taking advantage of this Saturday to explore the most talked about locations outside of Amherst that you may not have had the chance to visit yet!

Montague Book Mill

If you haven’t had the chance to visit the Montague Book Mill, this weekend might be a great opportunity for you to find some quiet time, and relax with a cup of coffee and a good book. If the weather holds up like it has been, you’ll be able to sit outside (in some layers perhaps) and enjoy the Lady Killigrew Cafe, while overlooking the stream with a friend. You can also take a stroll through the Sawmill River Gallery and enjoy some local art, and then pop over to Turn It Up! where you can explore their extensive music selection! So take a ride over to Montague this Saturday to escape the craziness and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a friend!

Leverett Peace Pagoda

If you’re looking for some peace this Saturday, you may want to also take a ride to the Leverett Peace Pagoda. Visiting the Buddhist temple would be taking the serenity of Saturday to a new level as you stroll around the grounds and take in the calming destination. You could easily visit both the Pagoda and the Book Mill on Saturday, too, as they are only a short ten minute drive from one another. Now that would most certainly be the most relaxing Saturday you’ve had yet!

Shelburne Falls

One other day trip could be to Shelburne Falls! The area has a lot to offer: outdoor trails, the Bridge of Flowers, the Glacial Potholes, artisan galleries, locally owned businesses, and restaurants. If you’re into exploring a new area, this might be the one for you. Again, weather permitting, this could be a nice change of scenery and escape from Amherst.
