The UMass Department of Geosciences Electron Microprobe/SEM Facility specializes in electron imaging and compositional microanalysis for applications in the geosciences, chemistry, physics, engineering, materials research, or any other discipline requiring knowledge of the in-situ, microscale chemistry, structure, and/or morphology of solid materials.
The facility provides micro-chemical information and imaging relevant to research addressing fundamental geochemical problems, applied research into solar system and planetary processes, petrological and mineralogical problems, all Earth processes that require knowledge of solid state phase compositions, and materials and engineering applications from development to the manufacturing floor.
