RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, Political Science, will join the MIT Governance Lab (MIT GOV/LAB), a group of political scientists who focus on innovations in citizen engagement and government responsiveness.  Will oversee administration of research projects in developed and developing countries.  Responsibilities include helping to coordinate field research, travel logistics, and the processing of expense reports; organizing events and scheduling project meetings; coordinating project details, including budgeting, report writing, and assisting with grant proposal preparation; processing project commitments (agreements, contracts, work requests, purchase orders); assisting with writing and producing research reports for partners and donors (outline and synthesize research updates and outcomes); supporting outreach efforts on behalf of projects (popular writing for the GOV/LAB and partner websites, presentations for internal/external audiences, etc.); helping research and draft literature reviews; and assisting with miscellaneous research tasks.

This position is ideal for a recent graduate interested in gaining research experience in political science. Past associates have been accepted into top Ph.D. programs in political science.

Culture, Health, and Science (CHS) Program Assistant for ‘16-’17- Apply by Monday, April 25th

CHSlogoThe Five College Program in Culture, Health, and Science (CHS) is looking for a program assistant for next year! CHS is a certificate program that allows students an opportunity to explore human health, disease and healing from an interdisciplinary perspective. The student program assistant plays an essential role for CHS to achieve its mission by working with the CHS Program Director, the CHS Steering Committee, and Five College central staff in a supportive capacity. This is a great opportunity for a student to connect with students and faculty in CHS, and be a part of exciting discussions about the goals and development of CHS. The Program Assistant position is approximately 8-10 hours per week during the academic year and receives a stipend of $2,600.

Requirements: The position requires strong communication, organization and leadership skills. Applicants must be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and able to work on multiple projects at once. Candidates must be available for at least one full academic year; two or more years preferred. The program assistant does not necessarily have to be a CHS student, but an interest in the program and passion for health studies is preferred.

Major duties:
– Manage communications on the CHS email account to serve as the major point of contact for CHS inquiries, to answer questions and clear up confusion.
– Maintain CHS’s social media presence on Facebook and the website.
– Gather members, promote CHS, and spread knowledge of the certificate at CHS events and meetings around the Five Colleges (talks, a CHS Pizza Party each semester, and occasional information sessions on individual campuses).
– Assist the Program Director and faculty advisors to coordinate Steering Committee business as needed, and take minutes at monthly steering committee meetings and distribute.
– Conduct regular maintenance of the Ever-Approved Courses list, and assist five college staff in posting CHS courses each semester as needed.
– Coordinate, organize and lead the monthly CHS student steering committee
– Collect and compile stories about CHS alumni to increase program continuity.

Primary Duties: Responsibilities include a wide range of duties relating to assisting the Division in investigating and prosecuting civil rights violations. Primary responsibilities are to conduct intake, screen and evaluate constituent complaints, investigate complaints, and respond to complainants. Other responsibilities include assisting Division attorneys in investigations and in case preparation, maintenance of Division files and statistics, and assisting with outreach events and other public presentations.

Position Requirements: Applicants must be undergraduates with excellent organizational, writing, and analytical skills; an ability to handle multiple tasks at once and balance both long- and short-term projects; strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public; strong oral communication and presentation skills; and a demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Division. Bilingual candidates are preferred.
