We would also like to congratulate former chapter presidents Michael Prokle, Shivani Shukla and Zana Cranmer for successfully defending their dissertation! Zana and former chapter officers Sara Saberi and Tulay Flamand (who defended their dissertation last year) also walked at the graduation ceremony. You can re-watch their commencement video here. Zana, Sara, Tulay, Michael and Shivani can be seen at a chapter event from 2015 in below picture (4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 10th from left, respectively).

Photos from STEM Slam 2017

This Friday we hosted the second annual, 3-minute speaking competition STEM Slam. It was a blast! 13 speakers covered a wide variety of STEM topics using only props that they can bring with them on the stage (no slides) and the audience was also able to participate by voting for their favorite speaker and answering trivia questions to win small prizes. The information about the speakers can be found below:

The audience choice award went to Ryan while Atreyi won the second place and Cansu won the first place! Although we must note it was a close call, all of the participants were only apart by a couple of points since they all did very well. Some photos from the event can be found below:

The rest of the photos from the event can be found on our Facebook album here. As UMass INFORMS Student Chapter we would like to thank all of the participants and the audience for attending and our judges for their contribution. Hope to see you all next year!
