We are thrilled to announce the first talk of our Fall 2024 Speaker Series, “Improving Diagnostic Equity in Ambulatory Settings: Research to Practice,” organized by the UMass Amherst Student Chapter of INFORMS and its Faculty Advisor, Professor Anna Nagurney.

Dr. Muge Capan is an Assistant Professor at the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at UMass Amherst. Dr. Capan graduated from North Carolina State University with a PhD degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Operations Research. Prior to joining UMass Amherst, she served as the Associate Director of Health Systems Optimization at Christiana Care Health System, leading cross-disciplinary teams as a PI and Co-PI on federally funded projects by NSF and NIH focused on developing and implementing data-driven solutions to facilitate timely diagnosis, personalized treatment, and communication of clinical risk. Her research utilizes decision analysis, operations research, and machine learning to analyze and inform clinical decision making under uncertainty. Her passion lies in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and developing new methods and applications of health decision analysis by leveraging data and human insights, with an emphasis on better understanding health disparities.
