The composed landscape of the palace of Vale? provides an excellent laboratory for exploring the development of the Baroque period in the Czech Republic and more broadly, Central Europe. The Bohemian Baroque is an understudied period in cultural landscape development, and while it was strongly influenced by the Italian Baroque and French Formal precedents, it developed as a distinctive style reflective of the region’s political, social, religious and cultural history.
