CfVideo-Essays/Papers

The International Conference on Videographic Criticism hosted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst on September 22-23, 2022 invites proposals for Video Essay presentations. We also welcome proposals for papers or pre-formed Session panels/round tables on any topic related to videographic criticism. Works in progress are welcome!

The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2022.
Notification of acceptance will be sent by beginning of May.

For VIDEOGRAPHIC presentations, please include:

  • The title of your work.
  • A link to your videographic work (set to private in Vimeo), or with a password included (Works in progress are welcome!).
  • A 1200-character Creator’s Statement discussing the project’s concept and critical approach.

For PAPER presentations, please send a proposal, in English, and include:

  • The title of your paper.
  • An abstract of 2500-characters.

For SESSION PROPOSALS:

Proposals for panels or round tables can combine papers and video essays. Please provide a 2500-character description of the panel. Include titles, Vimeo links to the video essays (with passwords), and 1200-character Creator’s Statements for each presenter. Provide titles and 2500-character abstracts for each of the paper presentations. Please indicate author name, affiliation, professional status and email address of all participants, as indicated for individual submissions.

SUBMIT A SESSION PROPOSAL

At the conference, each presenter will be in charge of a 15-minute presentation (including the screening of the video-essay) . We recommend video essays under 10 minutes. Long form video essays will be shared with conference attendees in advance of the conference and selections from these will be shown in panels. Video essays can be in English or in any other language with English subtitles. Papers will be in English.
