About Us

WHAT IS ALPHA LAMBDA DELTA?

We are the UMass Amherst chapter of the National Honor Society Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD). There are over 250 chapters of ALD nationally, and over 850,000 students have been inducted since its inception in 1924.

Alpha Lambda Delta serves to recognize academic achievement among students in their first year of college. We induct freshmen that achieve 3.55+ GPAs during their first year at UMass. Our members come from all departments and are some of the top students on campus. Many are involved in other activities outside of the classroom such as sports, student governance, and working or interning, in addition to ALD. Scholarships are available for outstanding members.

OUR GOALS

We look to create a community amongst our members through social events and community service initiatives. These activities help ALD members gain a better understanding of their surrounding community and of each other while improving the community in which they live.

We also work to promote academic success campus-wide, especially amongst incoming freshmen that hope to join UMass ALD after their first semester. Our requirement of a 3.5 or higher GPA ensures that freshmen who want to join have a high standard to work towards. Additionally, the UMass chapter of ALD regularly hosts events such as resume writing workshops, scholarship workshops, and others that help members improve and showcase their academic skills.
