    Brittany,
    no need to memorize the values of electronegativity. If you look at that table, you’ll see that the periodic trend (up and toward F) is very reliable. Deviations from that periodic trend are slight; and although they can be very interesting, such deviation are probably better left to advanced courses. For example, by playing with electronegativities you can find bonds that are more ionic (while still being mostly covalent in character) – this can become of interest for making semiconductors for electronics, batteries, or nanomaterials.

    Hello Professor, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to memorize the table on page 376 of the electronegativity values for the elements. Are you giving us this chart or is there a little trick to understanding them. I understand that group 1 and 2 are usually 1 or less and for groups 6A 7A are about 2.5>.
