2. Designing 3D Models

There are various pedagogical benefits of 3D modeling in the classroom. For the most part, designing and manipulating 3D models gives students the opportunity to conceptualize abstract content and perceive concepts in new ways. When considering Bloom’s Taxonomy principles, 3D modeling activities give students the opportunity to learn through the construction of a 3D model, which requires evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing information. Additionally, interaction with 3D models (i.e., manipulating and combining shapes) add invaluable depth to every student’s motor skills.

3D modeling is a tool that establishes a bridge between a problem and a solution.

In this section, you will have the opportunity to explore databases of 3D models and 3D modeling tools that can be used in the classroom. You will also have the opportunity to create your own digital 3D model. This section will help you build more confidence in incorporating 3D modeling and printing into your practice.
