Six-time Grammy nominee Fred Hersch balances his internationally recognized piano skills with significant achievements as a composer and bandleader. “If you want a working definition of the jazz piano trio, circa early 21st century, start here,” writes Neil Tesser, “Alive at the Vanguard is audacious and extravagant… “ writes JazzTimes. “The title of this album, and the vital music it contains, must be understood as his ringing, joyous, belligerent celebration of the miraculous fact that he is, in every sense, alive.”

absolutely fabulous
Loved the show. I’d never seen Fred play before but have listened to an really liked his very sensitive playing. Watching him from the intimate Bezanson Hall, I could see his poly-rhythmic work and deep chordal structuring. The Steinway was wonderful to hear – very clear.
My only critique–as a bassist, more bass volume.
Fantastic. Best jazz concert I’ve been to in many, many years. Transporting.
Very nice concert with lots of good music and great playing. Sound was good from the front row, balance was very good. I wish the lighting had been more subdued.
