Every now and then a group comes along with the rare ability to transcend cultural boundaries and connect diverse audiences through the power of music. The Soweto Gospel Choir is such a troupe. This glorious 25-member choir sold out the Concert Hall three years ago and returns again to perform its inspirational blend of tribal, traditional, and popular African gospel music in eight different languages. Earthy rhythms, rich harmonies, and charismatic a cappella delivery combine to uplift the soul and give voice to South Africa’s hopes for a bright future.

I was delighted by the energy, powerful performance, colorful vision and uplifting show Soweto Choir presented…Awosome!! I’m a grd student from Brazil in my first semester and I’m so happy I was here to see them…
I loved the show. I was thrilled that they brought down the house with “Oh Happy Day.” It is my favorite.
This show was spectacular! I was so moved by the power of their voices and the way they connected with the whole audience. I feel lucky to have been there and wouldn’t ever hesitate to see them again!
A spectacular evening of song, dance and a little theatre to uplift us all at a most difficult time in our country’s history…Soweto’s talent, energy, enthusiasm, exuberance, and joy rippled through the hall from the very first note…and did not subside until the last member of the choir left the stage…the passion and emotion worked its way from the stage to the highest seat in the house…and the audience returned the favor with an equally enthusiastic wave of applause…when do they return to UMass…can I reserve my tickets now?
Terrific show! We had no idea what to expect, thought it was a women’s choir! The energy, voices,costumes,dancing made for an exciting and joyful evening.
Each and every memeber of the Choir moved, sang, danced and drummed with self-pride, dignity, inspired from on high. I will be uplifted from their spiritually motivated skill for the rest of my life, (just as I was when I was in South Africa and saw first hand how people’s lives there are artforms, no matter what).
This was a gift to a dear friend – his choice. We thought it would be a rather staid choir singing gospel songs. Imagine our delight and surprise to be entertained, inspired, uplifted and overjoyed with costume, gorgeous song, dance and soul enhancing music. It was wonderful!
The show was outstanding. The energy was amazing! I am so glad to have had the experience and that I had my mate with me to share it. It is so difficult to tell others how fantastic something when words don’t begin to describe “Energy”.
I too thought the show was wonderful and echo the enthusiastic comments made above. However, I was made physically uncomfortable by the extreme sound amplification, especially in the first half and when there was full instrumental accompaniment and four ‘soloists’ singing together as well as the choir. Ouch! These people have wonderfully big voices and that amount of amplification makes for distortion. Others around me made the same remarks so I’m wondering whether it was our position in the theatre (Row Q, even number side)?

Our Council On Aging was the lucky recipient of 2 Angel tickets for this program. The seniors who attended reported the performance was absolutely transcendent. The house was on it’s feet during the rendition of “Amazing Grace”…..so impressive to them. Thank you, Angel Ticket program, for making this possible.

First I am sorry you found the sound too loud for you. If you find yourself in a similar situation do let an usher or house manager know. We are aware that some patrons find sound too loud and when we are notified of this we contact the show and can get the sound volume adjusted.
