Inclusive Universities launch program

Report released by Chancellor of University of Massachusetts Amherst, K. Subbaswamy, and Vice Chancellor of University of Pune, Nitin Kalmalkar

Institutions of higher learning educate and prepare our country’s youth for the economy, but equally important, they instill values and competencies of democratic citizenship that are vital to the future of the country. The ‘Inclusive Universities’ report showcases research tools and frameworks to assess campus climate for diversity, inclusive pedagogy and democratic outcomes. The report presents scholarship on how campuses can create conditions for the success of historically disadvantaged groups. The research focus on equity across social groups and on the importance of an inclusive climate calls for higher education to be more than a window of opportunity for some and instead facilitate the success of all students and bring about a more democratic and pluralistic ethos which is an urgent and universal concern today.
