Sigma Theta Tau International has put out the call for abstracts for its 29th International Nursing Research Congress, to be held in Melbourne, Australia from 19-23 July, 2018. The focus of the Congress will be Innovative Global Nursing Practice and Education Through Research and Evidence-Based Practice. Abstracts are invited for papers that address the following topics:

Mary Beth Happ, PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA will present the third 2017 NINR Director’s Lecture on September 20 at the NIH Campus in Bethseda, Maryland. In her presentation, “Giving Voice to the Voiceless: Improving Communication with Critically Ill Patients,” Dr. Happ will describe her program of research which addresses family bedside presence during critical illness, end-of-life care and treatment decision making in the ICU, and patient and family outcomes in acute-critical illness.

The Office of Research invites Faculty in the College of Nursing to register for a five-week course examining the basics of applying for a grant, presented by Associate Dean of Research, Dr. Annette Wysocki.
Sessions will be held each Wednesday, from September 13 to October 11, in Skinner 101 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. The course will cover the following topics:
1) Introduction to Federal grants
2) Biosketches
3) Specific Aims and Research Strategy
4) Budgets and Budget Justifications
5) Facilities and Other Resources, Human Subjects, Environmental Questions, Scoring Criteria

In this fourth installment of our series highlighting recent research from our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, we look at Evan M. McEwing’s inquiry into the delivery of culturally competent care to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender population.
College of Nursing Assistant Professor Rachel Walker has been invited by the Susan G. Komen organization to participate in the 2017 Rally for Medical Research, to be held on September 13-14 in Washington, D.C. Dr. Walker is the recipient of a Komen Career Catalyst Research Award to develop what she describes as an “off-the-shelf survivorship support toolkit” for breast cancer survivors.
The Rally for Medical Research has taken place since 2013. It brings together nearly 300 national organizations with the purpose of calling on policymakers to make funding for the National Institutes of Health a national priority and raise awareness about the importance of continued investment in medical research that leads to MORE PROGRESS, MORE HOPE and MORE LIVES SAVED.
