YMCA Practicum

My practicum is a the Gloucester County YMCA where I will be doing an intervention involving weekly nutrition class over a ten week period, free nutrition counseling to members, tabling events, and more! I am excited to have this opportunity to bring a nutrition aspect to the YMCA this summer.
I kick started my practicum by participating in the Healthy Kids Day Event. This event is to promote health and wellness for children. There were various activities including karate, dancing, obstacle course, a walk, and a free farmers market.
I helped set up the free farmer’s market which included various fruits and vegetables and participants could take an entire bag home for free all donated by a local farmer! I did a My Plate Nutrition Table. The table included a coloring activity as well as a “Go, Slow, and Whoa” foods game. The event was a success and participants enjoyed the table. As incentives, I gave a place mat activity page, stickers, and crayons for children to take home. It was also a great opportunity to promote my upcoming class starting June 19-August 21st and the free counseling sessions. Overall, it was a great start to my practicum!
