Finishing up my practicum experience (my 3rd and final blog!)

As I finish up my practicum experience, I just wanted to reflect on what a great learning and enjoyable experience it was.  I am happy to have been able to work with the Franklin Agricultural and truly learned so much about the local agriculture in my town.  My last two newsletters were written about the Franklin Honey Company and Hoffmann Farm, a dairy farm.  They were definitely 2 of my favorite topics.  Check out the links for my newsletters and some pictures from my time at the farms.

Thanks!

Franklin Agricultural Commission Practicum Update

I continue to be very busy completing my practicum with the Franklin Agricultural Commission.  I have attended meetings, visited farms and the local farm store .  I am really enjoying this experience so much.  Not only am I learning a lot, but I am able to share it with the community through my newsletters.  I have now published 6 newsletters and I am currently working on my 7th.  I hope to do at least one more with the short time we have left, but would be much happier if I can squeeze more than that in.

Here is a list of topics that I have covered in my newsletters and the links to view the newsletters.

Franklin Agricultural Commission Practicum Experience

This summer I am working with the Franklin Agricultural Commission (AgCom) to complete my practicum experience.  In my hometown of Franklin, MA, the AgCom was enacted in 2017 and is working to support all things agriculture in town.  I am working with them to design and implement a nutrition education campaign about eating fresh and local foods through social media.  I will be attending monthly AgCom meetings and visiting local farms each week all summer.  I have already attended meetings, worked at the Farmers’ Market, attended the town’s annual Strawberry Stroll, and visited a farm.  Each week I post a newsletter through the AgCom Facebook page focusing on a different topic.  I will be posting my 3rd this week and hope to have 7 others posted by the end of August.  Topics so far have included, Local foods available in Franklin and benefits, The AgCom, and this week’s is on one of the local farms.  In the next few weeks upcoming topics are planned to include, the Farmers’ Market, the local farm store, and several other farms.  So far, my practicum is going well.  I am learning a lot and the AgCom members and farmers have been so welcoming and eager to work with me!
