Chinese Handouts

A lot of you probably already know that I am originally from Hong Kong and I speak fluent Cantonese and Mandarin. I have been working at a Mental hospital for the past 5 years and providing nutrition education is a very important part of my job. We have patients from different educational backgrounds, mental status and ethnic groups. There are a lot of great resources available in English and Spanish for our patients. However, finding resources in Chinese can be very challenging. Therefore, I decided to work with my previous dietetic internship preceptor at David Grant Medical Center and develop Chinese handouts for the Chinese population. My original idea was to develop disease specific handouts. However, after discussing with Dr. Cohen and my supervisor, I decided to develop handouts on general nutrition topics. So far, I have created handouts on Carbohydrates, Protein, Diary, Fruits/Vegetables and Weight Management. Hopefully, towards the end of the practicum, I will be able to create at least 12-15 handouts. I will be developing a user-friendly website also, so that Dietitians in the country can access the handouts and use them for nutrition education.

This is definitely very challenging especially working with my supervisor who has been very busy due to family emergency. However, I am very much enjoying this practicum and will be posting my handouts shortly on the blog.
