Nutritional In-services at the Greater Beverly YMCA

I have done three in-services thus far, all focusing of basic childhood nutrition.  My next group of in-services will focus on basic adolescent nutrition.  After that I will be covering topics that parents told me they were interested in such as – what are nutrients, eating out vs. in, lack of time and eating healthy, and what is type 2 diabetes.  Many more and as you can see, parents are interested in a wide range of nutritional issues.  In-services where initially focused on parents and adult members.  I ended up changing my focus to “family education”  because parents come to the Y with their children.

Attached is a picture of me with one of my “students” after my Halloween in-service.  I have been using a really old projector screen that I borrowed from my 95 year old Aunt.  The kids have not been able to resist making shapes in the screen (even during my presentation).  I actually think it is funny because I use to love doing that myself.

Halloween In-service for Practicum

Practicum At Greater Beverly YMCA

I will be presenting nutritional in-services sponsored by the Greater Beverly YMCA.  The Greater Beverly Y is just north of Boston MA.  I will also be presenting at low-income housing facilities that are sponsored by the Y.  Over the last two Saturdays, I set up a booth at the biggest and busiest Y advertising my in-services.  This Saturday I did a Halloween theme which was a big hit with the kids.  I will be focusing on parents who are waiting for their kids at the Y during swim lessons, yoga, gymnastics, etc…  They wait hours at a time.  I discovered that most parents are thinking about nutrition both for their kids and themselves.  Many were interested in what are the nutritional needs of school age and adolescent kids, particularly during periods of high exercise. Attached is a picture of me and my booth that a mother I had been talking with took.  I ended up giving the entire booth, minus my card table, to a young mother and her three kids who was leaving at the same time as I was.  The four year old loved the pumpkin bucket.Practicum Booth
