Nicole’s Practicum, More Pictures

RayStone Take Action Photos 5-10

This is a link to a photo collage of the smoothie celebration that took place at one of our worksites.  It was a great event.  Senior managment showed their support for the wellness program by blending smoothies for everyone on the Health Ed Council’s famous Smoothie Bike.  This event was to celebrate the end of a 10 Week Physical Activity Challenge the employees participated in.

At Blue Diamond (one of our worksites) doing a physical activity demo with Philip, the Physical Activity Coordinator for the Health Education Council.  This is a canned food workout– and it’s a lot harder than it looks!

Blue Diamond employees, lunging it out.

I need to be taking a lot more pictures! Other events I’ve facilitated, that I unfortunately did not take pictures of, include:

  • Nutrition education sessions (label reading, calorie comparisons) at worksites
  • Food demonstrations– we made a healthy black bean and corn pita recipe
  • Smoothie celebration at a worksite to celebrate the end of their 10-Week Physical Activity Challenge.  Here, senior management showed their support for the wellness program by blending the smoothies on our famous Smoothie Bike!  (Some other people did take pictures, so I will try to get my hands on some!)

Intro to Nicole Geurin’s Practicum in Worksite Wellness

Hello, my name is Nicole Geurin and I am a Registered Dietitian in Sacramento, CA. I am completing my practicum with the Health Education Council, a non-profit organization in my area that implements a variety of public health programs funded primarily by the Network for a Healthy California (ie. the state’s public health department). My particular area of interest is worksite wellness, and I will be working with the Worksite Wellness Program during my practicum. The Worksite Wellness program targets employers with low-income employees and provides free resources and technical assistance to encourage them to implement a wellness program. I do not think there is really one big project that I will be implementing, but rather a series of little projects as I work with multiple different worksites.

To learn more about my practicum work, check out the California Fit Business Kit at http://www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/cpns/Pages/WorksiteFitBusinessKit.aspx . This is the primary toolkit we use in developing wellness programs for worksites.

Also, feel free to check out healthedcouncil.org to learn more about the Health Education Council.

I’m looking forward to learning about everyone’s practicum experiences.
