Before you implement your lesson plan, think about how you can evaluate the use of digital media. This is different than evaluating student learning and engagement. For example, if students are more engaged in the learning process, this might be due to the fact that they enjoy the topic or because you tried a new teaching strategy. If students demonstrate a deeper understanding of the content, this might be because they already had prior knowledge of the content or the content was easier to comprehend.
So, instead of making assumptions (e.g., “I tried this new digital media tool and my students’ academic achievement improved), find ways to collect evidence and data about the use of digital media. The best way to do this is by asking your students:
- What did you learn from this insert digital media product/tool/project here?
- Did the use of digital media increase or decrease your engagement in learning? Explain your answer.
- Did the use of digital media support or hinder your learning? Explain your answer.
- What did you think about this insert digital media product/tool/project here
- Should we do this activity again? Why or why not?
- What could we do differently next time?
