What city and state was your internship located in?

My internship was on the UMass Campus in Amherst, MA.

How did you get to your internship every day?

I either took the bus or walked.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

As an intern, I was responsible for some photography, but mainly I wrote articles for the Department’s website. I took photos of campus and the English Department for Instagram, as well as covered some English Department events by taking taking photos and doing write-ups of them afterwards. A huge bulk of my work, though involved interviewing students and alumni and writing up their profiles for the website.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

I enjoyed the flexibility of the internship. I was able to decide what kind of work I wanted to do and what I wanted to get out of the internship which was cool. It was also nice for my schedule that the other interns and I only had to meet once a week with our supervisor to give updates on our progress. I only did this for 2 credits though, so it may be more demanding the more credits you take it for.

What did you find challenging about your internship?

I found the transcribing to be a bit difficult. I interviewed four people total and transcribing takes a lot of time which I did not realize. I got used to it pretty quickly, though.

What skills did you develop through this internship?

I developed some photography skills, better interviewing skills, and writing skills through this internship.

What advice would you offer to someone who is considering this internship?

You do not have to be an English major to do this internship, so if you are into content creation and want to practice your writing or photography skills, this is the opportunity for you!
