What city and state was your internship located in?
The NESN studio is located in Watertown, MA and remote at Fenway Park, Boston, MA.
How did you get to your internship every day?
I drove either to the studio or to the park depending on where I was asked to be that particular day. They do not compensate your parking or public transportation.
What did you do as an intern at this organization?
At NESN, as an intern, we shadow someone different almost every time you come in. I learned about graphics, producing, stage managing, and I ran out to get dinner a few times for the Talent. I did little bit of everything and I loved it. NESN treats you like an employee not an intern. They will tell you all summer that you are an employee of NESN not an intern at all. The producers and directors definitely give you a great deal of responsibility but this taught me to always ask questions if I am confused and to take the time to learn from some of the most successful people in the TV industry.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I loved stage managing for Dave O’Brien, Dennis Eckersley, and Rose Mirakian-Wheeler. It was amazing participating in live Red Sox game commentary with Dave O’Brien and Dennis Eckersley, and watching the game from the press box wasn’t to bad either. As well as assisting Director Mirakian-Wheeler with the Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon.
What did you find challenging about your internship?
What I found challenging was there were multiple interns doing the same tasks as me and having to share the work load was hard because we all wanted to participate and get the most out of the internship. Making it difficult for everyone to get completely hands on because it was live television and there was a deadline for everything.
What skills did you develop through this internship?
Video Editing, Graphic Development, Stage Managing, basic directing and producing.
What advice would you offer to someone who is considering this internship?
Put yourself out there and try everything, it is scary to want to participate at times because it is live TV. I promise you wont regret taking the risk and trying it while you can. Any experience is good experience!
