What did you do as an intern at this organization?
I communicated with constituents, via phone and email, and maintained a database of constituent concerns. Occasionally, I was able to assist the Communications Director with the development of press releases, op-eds, and social media posts.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I enjoyed learning about the ins and outs of a legislative office. Additionally, the Senate Office of Education and Civic Engagement arranged for various guest speakers to address the interns, which was incredibly inspiring and eye-opening.
What did you find challenging about your internship?
Sometimes it was difficult to remain fully engaged, as database entry could be fairly monotonous.
What skills did you develop through this internship?
I honed my research skills by preparing legislative briefings on pertinent issues.
What advice would you offer to someone who is considering this internship?
While it can be somewhat slow, it’s a worthwhile experience, especially if you’re interested in state government!
