What city and state was your internship located in?
My internship was in Springfield, MA.
How did you get to your internship every day?
I drove using my own car to get there.
What did you do as an intern at this organization?
I am responsible for crafting the organizations weekly newsletters and sending them out to our thousands of subscribers. I also help run our social media accounts and think of new ideas to add to our existing platforms. I attend events that our organization puts on and I am the host/producer of an NEPR podcast.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I have been loving that I am given real responsibilities and am listened to when I have new ideas. This is certainly not an internship where I’ve been given just busy work – I feel like I am valuable here.
What did you find challenging about your internship?
Though I have really great bosses who have helped guide me, I do still need to work through things on my own. Sometimes trying to learn a new program like Adobe Audition can be somewhat tricky, but also something that I’m glad I’ve been able to figure out and learn.
What skills did you develop through this internship?
I have had a little podcasting experience in the past, but through this internship I have learned how to actually produce a podcast. I have really cleaned up my public speaking and teamwork skills and I am always learning new things about public radio.
What advice would you offer to someone who is considering this internship?
You should be educated and passionate about public radio and what the internship requires. That’s important to keep yourself motivated and to always be creating new ideas for the organization.

Internship Title:Marketing & Social Media of Podcasts
Full-time or part-time? Part-time

What city and state was your internship located in?
Springfield, MA.
How did you get to your internship every day?
I drove there, but was also able to carpool. A lot of UMass students intern there so it is easy to find people to carpool with.
What did you do as an intern at this organization?
As an intern, I made both the bi-weekly event newsletters and podcast newsletters, as well as the weekly news newsletter. I wrote and scheduled social media posts for the events and podcasts, too. I also created audiograms of quotes from the different podcasts and attended the events that NEPR put on and sponsored.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I really enjoyed the amount of writing I have been able to do here. From the newsletters to the social media posts, I have been able to really practice my writing and I have learned a lot about how to write for these platforms.
What did you find challenging about your internship?
Luckily, NEPR is very flexible and allows me to work off-site once a week, but it makes communicating a bit more difficult, especially since everything I write and all the images I put together for social media need to be approved by my supervisors before I can send them out. It definitely slows down the process, but it is manageable.
What skills did you develop through this internship?
I have been exposed to different tools and applications such as InDesign, Constant Contact, Headliner, and Tweetdeck, which I am really happy about. I have also developed stronger writing skills and time management skills due to the fact that I work off-site in addition to on-site.
What advice would you offer to someone who is considering this internship?
Be ready to learn new things and get involved in the community. I have never used InDesign before and it was a little daunting, but they were always there to help me out. I also didn’t realize how many events NEPR sponsors and puts on themselves, but they are super fun events to go to! If you are interested in your community or even just public radio in general, there are lots of options for internships to apply for apart from marketing.
